Kwaadaardige aandoeningen van het immuunsysteem geven frequent aanleiding tot lymfeklierzwellingen in het hoofd-halsgebied, die zelfs de eerste verschijnselen van de ziekte kunnen zijn. Ook kan door een verminderde werking van het immuunsysteem het risico op orale infecties toenemen.
