8 Trainingsstrategieën in revalidatieprogramma’s bij patiënten met COPD

Samenvatting

Chronisch obstructieve longziekte (COPD) gaat gepaard met een abnormaal verlies van spiermassa, perifere skeletspierdisfunctie, afgenomen inspanningscapaciteit en een afgenomen gezondheidsstatus. Door middel van revalidatieprogramma’s, waarvan fysieke training een belangrijk deel uitmaakt, is het mogelijk om de kracht en het uithoudingsvermogen van de spieren, de inspanningscapaciteit en de gezondheidstoestand van de patiënten met COPD te verbeteren. Trainingsstrategieën binnen bestaande interventies in revalidatieprogramma’s bij patiënten met COPD worden in dit hoofdstuk beschreven: intervaltraining, zuurstofsuppletie, spierkrachttraining en neuromusculaire elektrostimulatie. Helaas is niet iedere patiënt met COPD in staat om een revalidatieprogramma te voltooien. Door voor een andere trainingsstrategie te kiezen kunnen betere resultaten behaald worden. Er dient aanvullend onderzoek plaats te vinden om meer duidelijkheid te verschaffen over welke strategie bij welk type patiënt behoort.
