Zusammenfassung
Een wegraking is een kortdurende (hooguit enkele minuten), spontaan overgaande kennelijke bewusteloosheid. De bewusteloosheid leidt tot abnormale motoriek (vallen), verlies van normale reacties op prikkels en later amnesie. Figuur 7.1. toont enkele verwante begrippen, en figuur 7.2. laat zien dat niet-traumatische wegrakingen kunnen worden onderverdeeld in syncope, epilepsie, functionele wegraking en zeldzame vormen. Deze indeling wordt internationaal gebruikt, en bundelt aandoeningen die op elkaar lijken; ‘wegraking’ is daarin hetzelfde als ‘Transient Loss of Consciousness’ (TLOC).
