Samenvatting
Het linkeratrium (LA) heeft een complexe vorm. De achterzijde is uitgestrekt over de wervelkolom, de aorta descendens en de slokdarm. De vier binnenkomende longvenen (twee aan weerszijden: rechter bovenste en rechter onderste longvene, en linker bovenste en linker onderste longvene) bepalen deels de vorm van het dak en de achterzijde van het LA. Bij volumetoename bolt het LA naar boven en naar links uit. Vormveranderingen van de thorax of een afwijkende thoraxanatomie beïnvloeden de vorm van het LA.
