Samenvatting

De ziekte van Guillain-Barré is een acute immuungemedieerde polyneuropathie, een ontstekingsachtige aandoening van de zenuwen in armen en benen, die meestal gepaard gaat met ernstige spierzwakte en mogelijk gevoelsstoornissen en autonome stoornissen. De polyneuropathie is meestal van het demyeliniserende type (myelinebeschadiging), soms van het axonale type (axonenbeschadiging).
