Abstract

Gedragstherapeutische partnerrelatietherapie (Behavioral Marital Therapy: BMT) is een behandelmodel voor relatieproblematiek en individuele psychopathologie dat ontwikkeld en geëvalueerd is in gecontroleerd onderzoek gedurende de afgelopen dertig jaar. Het is een benadering om gedrag, emoties en cognities van de individuele partners en de interacties tussen de partners te veranderen, gebaseerd op de sociale leertheorie en cognitieve psychologie. De interventies hebben tot doel relatieproblematiek te verminderen en paren te helpen tevredener te zijn met hun relatie. Primair betreft het een vaardigheidsgerichte benadering met een focus op het veranderen van gedrag en interacties in het hier-en-nu. Het belangrijkste ingrediënt bestaat uit oefeningen om effectiever te communiceren. De vaardigheden die aangeleerd worden zijn: probleem-oplossen, effectief spreken en luisteren, negatieve interactiepatronen doorbreken en een positievere interactie opbouwen.
