Diagnostiek en behandeling van atherosclerotisch vaatlijden in de perifere vaten

Abstract

Dit hoofdstuk is een overzicht van de huidige inzichten in de diagnostiek en behandeling van perifeer atherosclerotisch vaatlijden. Aangezien dit een zeer uitgebreid onderwerp is waaraan vele facetten kleven, beperkt het overzicht zich tot het vaatgebied gelokaliseerd in het bekken en de benen. Atherosclerotisch vaatlijden kan op twee manieren tot uiting komen. Er is sprake van dilaterend vaatlijden met de vorming van aneurysmata, of er ontwikkelt zich stenoserend vaatlijden. Combinaties van beide zijn echter in principe ook mogelijk. Ten aanzien van de behandelingsopties kan de volgende indeling worden gehanteerd: een afwachtend beleid met alleen interventie ten aanzien van de risicofactoren, of een interventie waarbij de keus bestaat uit een chirurgisch open dan wel een endovasculaire behandeling.
