In gebieden met een gematigd klimaat doen de meeste luchtweginfecties zich voor in de koude periode. Virale luchtweginfecties worden door verschillende virussen veroorzaakt (zie tabel). Met het oog op de vraag zal het seizoenseffect op infecties met rinovirussen en influenzavirussen worden besproken.
