Samenvatting

De menisci zijn twee halvemaanvormige kraakbeenschijven die zich tussen het femur en de tibia bevinden. De belangrijkste functie van de menisci is drukverdeling in het kniegewricht. Daarnaast zorgen de menisci voor een betere schokabsorptie en proprioceptie. Verder vermoedt men dat de menisci bijdragen aan een betere smering van het gewricht door het optimaliseren van vloeistofstromen (synovia ) langs het gewrichtskraakbeen.1,2,3
