Met de term burnout wordt, in essentie, een psychische uitputtingstoestand aangeduid; in het Nederlands wordt ook wel van opbranden gesproken. De afgelopen jaren is men zich echter in het kielzog van de zogenoemde positieve psychologie, die zich richt op persoonlijke kracht en optimaal functioneren, gaan afvragen hoe het zit met het tegenovergestelde van burnout: bevlogenheid ofwel ‘work engagement’.
