Duizeligheid

Duizeligheid is voor de patiënt vaak een moeilijk te omschrijven gevoel dat veel onzekerheid oproept bij degenen die het ervaren én bij de artsen die hen behandelen. Duizeligheid is moeilijk te objectiveren. Het is een sensatie van beweging of onzekerheid, waarmee de patiënt van alles kan bedoelen, ook loopstoornissen, angst of het gevoel bijna weg te raken. Meestal wordt onderscheid gemaakt tussen enerzijds draaiduizeligheid (echte vertigo) en anderzijds een licht gevoel – meestal in het hoofd. Omdat vertigo ook wel als synoniem voor duizeligheid gebruikt wordt, geven we in dit hoofdstuk de voorkeur aan de term draaiduizeligheid.
