Abstract

Het belang van de eerste levensjaren voor de verdere ontwikkeling van de mens is nog nooit zo sterk naar voren gebracht als in het laatste decennium. De National Academy of Sciences in de VS heeft de wetenschappelijke stand van zaken recent op schrift gesteld in de publicatie From Neurons to Neighborhoods (2000). Ook de Surgeon General heeft het belang onderstreept van preventieve strategieen tijdens de vroege kindertijd voor de geestelijke gezondheid op latere leeftijd.
