I disturbi specifici di linguaggio (DSL) rappresentano un insieme eterogeneo di quadri sindromici caratterizzati da un disordine in uno o più ambiti dello sviluppo linguistico. La definizione specific language impairment (SLI) in inglese, DSL in italiano, viene utilizzata per quei disturbi di linguaggio ai quali non deve essere associato un deficit cognitivo (QI non <80), né altre patologie evolutive sindromiche.
