Abstract

eHealth is a transformative player on the field of medicine and one that requires a cautious approach. Like every tool, it admits a use, conforms to the specification of the designer, and a misuse, stretching its potentials beyond the intended goals. However, unlike many other tools, the domain of existence of eHealth directly affects some of our founding properties and rights: our health and quality of life. Thus, research and evaluation have to become two pillars of the discourse over eHealth adoption/deployment and we have to thoroughly reflect over the course of action and the intended essential objectives we want to achieve, reminding that the less, in health, is often more. In this chapter we will scan through the nature of healthcare, of medicine and of mankind, trying to make sense of the moment of innovation we are living and of the consequences our choices can have on our future.
