Abstract

The risks and complications related to regional anaesthesia in paediatrics include inadvertent dural puncture, total spinal block, toxic phenomena, and infections. However, proper pain management is important in the care of a child after surgery. It allows the patient to breathe deeply and walk earlier, it decreases the magnitude of the postoperative stress response, and it improves the overall quality of patient care. Multiple modalities exist for administering medications to such children, including intramuscular, intravenous, patient-controlled analgesia, and epidural, spinal, and nerve blocks.
