Abstract

Arthritis (Greek arthron, joint, + -itis, inflammation): inflammation of one (monarthritis) or more (poly-) joints. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA): a systemic connective tissue disorder, which may affect any synovial joint of the body. The term is commonly used in the United States. Juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA): in addition to JRA, this term includes other paediatric connective tissue disorders, such as juvenile ankylosing spondylitis and psoreatic arthritis. The term is commonly used in the United kingdom and other parts of the world. Criteria for the diagnosis of JCA are onset under 16 years and duration of minimum 3 months
