Is Overdrive Pacing Useful for the Prevention of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation?

  • Conference paper
Cardiac Arrhythmias 2001

Zusammenfassung

Earlier observations that a high percentage of atrial pacing was associated with a reduced incidence of atrial tachyarrhythmia in selected patients paved the way to the development of pacemaker algorithms for the prevention of atrial fibrillation (AF) by pacing the atrium slightly above the intrinsic atrial rate [1–4]. Dynamic atrial overdrive pacing could decrease atrial ectopic activity involved in the onset of AF, prevent prolonged postextrasystolic pauses following premature atrial beats, and be efficient in the prevention of AF associated with absolute or relative bradycardia.
