Abstract
Respiratory tract infection is the most common cause of illness in children, carrying significant morbidity and mortality. Host immunity is important in helping the clinician to understand and classify the different end-organ responses to a particular organism and, indeed, whether various pathogens are virulent and their degree of virulence. It is therefore prudent to consider separately the immunocompetent from the immunocompromised child when considering the radiological profiles of acute chest infection.
