Riassunto

Questo capitolo affronta il tema delle imprese spin-off della ricerca pubblica. L’obiettivo é quello di fornire un contributo utile e concreto, ancorché teoricamente fondato, riguardo a questa specifica tipologia di imprese, oggetto di intensa attenzione negli ultimi dieci-quindici anni. Viene innanzitutto inquadrato il fenomeno nel presente scenario economico, con particolare riferimento alla situazione italiana. Anche alla luce delle più recenti evidenze empiriche vengono poi descritte le principali caratteristiche distintive delle imprese spin-off; in particolare, vengono analizzate le motivazioni dei soci fondatori e le diverse modalità di relazione con gli Enti Pubblici di Ricerca di origine. Vengono quindi rappresentate e discusse le varie tipologie di imprese spin-off che sono attualmente presenti sul mercato e sono infine presentate alcune considerazioni strategiche e di policy, soprattutto in funzione di un’ulteriore ed auspicabile crescita del fenomeno.
