Riassunto

La violenza nei pazienti geriatrici coinvolge molti degli stessi fattori e considerazioni già presi in esame per gli individui più giovani; sebbene con minor frequenza, infatti, gli anziani possono commettere crimini, spaventarsi e reagire su base paranoica, abusare di sostanze ed agire per vendetta. Ogni causa di violenza in un individuo giovane può anche essere una causa di violenza all’interno della popolazione geriatrica; queste situazioni, nelle persone più vecchie, generalmente devono essere trattate con modifiche minori per rispondere a specifiche questioni geriatriche. Una delle differenze rispetto al resto della popolazione è nella minor frequenza di tale violenza poiché gli individui maturano e diventano meno impulsivi. Durante gli interventi clinico-terapeutici devono essere presi in considerazione i cambiamenti fisici e fisiologici concomitanti con l’avanzare dell’età, come un aumento nella fragilità e una riduzione di metabolismo e clearence.
