Riassunto

Negli ultimi decenni la mortalità e la morbilità perioperatorie in ambito pediatrico sono andate declinando grazie ai miglioramenti delle tecniche perioperatorie, all’identificazione dei fattori di rischio e all’analisi delle cause potenzialmente reversibili di eventi critici. La maggior parte dei pazienti pediatrici che risulta vittima di un incidente critico durante anestesia è rappresentata da bambini sani sottoposti a procedure elettive. Una valutazione preoperatoria dettagliata è pertanto essenziale per identificare qualsiasi condizione patologica che possa richiedere un trattamento pre- e postoperatorio e determinare quale regime anestesiologico sia ottimale per il bambino. In questo capitolo saranno esaminati i più comuni problemi che si incontrano durante la valutazione preoperatoria insieme alla loro possibile correlazione con conseguenze anestesiologiche, il monitoraggio intraoperatorio e la gestione del dolore postoperatorio.
