Riassunto

La tomografia computerizzata (TC) rappresenta una delle principali innovazioni mediche degli ultimi quarant’anni. Dalla sua introduzione, avvenuta nel 1972, la TC si è trasformata in uno strumento indispensabile per l’imaging diagnostico in una molteplicità di applicazioni cliniche. Dai pionieristici tomografi degli anni Settanta siamo giunti alle moderne TC multistrato, in grado di produrre con brevissimi tempi di acquisizione immagini di elevata qualità dell’intero distretto corporeo, fornendo informazioni di tipo sia anatomico sia funzionale, impensabili fino a pochi anni fa.
