Riassunto

La broncopneumopatia cronico-ostruttiva (BPCO) è una patologia progressiva e irreversibile che generalmente conduce allo sviluppo di insufficienza respiratoria cronica. Essa rappresenta una delle maggiori cause di morte per patologie croniche nel mondo. I suoi elevati tassi di prevalenza, associati all’innalzamento della vita media nei Paesi più ricchi, sono tra i due fattori che hanno reso questa patologia una della maggiori cause di spesa sanitaria.
