Abstract
The use of prostheses in surgery is nowadays widespread, though some doubts still remain on the hypothetical carcinogenicity of these prostheses. Some investigational trials have shown the possibility of carcinogenic stimulation by foreign bodies introduced into the body, like those by Vasiliev and Moizhess in 1982 [1], where polyvinyl hydrochloride film was inserted into the abdomen of some rats and some sarcomatous cells were subsequently introduced. It was then possible to observe an increase in the rate and decrease in growth times of sarcomas thus induced.
