Le cefalee primarie, soprattutto le forme emicraniche e quelle tensive, sono state considerate fin dalla notte dei tempi conseguenze dirette di sottostanti problemi psichici di varia natura e severità. Se ancora oggi questa opinione resiste nella cultura collettiva di larghe fasce di popolazione lo si deve senz’altro all’altissima frequenza con cui le due problematiche si ritrovano associate nello stesso paziente e al reciproco rinforzo che sul piano clinico caratterizza la comorbilità tra cefalee e disturbi della sfera psichica.
