La concentrazione di ossigeno nella miscela dei gas inspirati (FiO2) รจ impostabile, nei moderni respiratori, tra il 21 ed il 100%. Da un punto di vista clinico, si deve distinguere tra la concentrazione che viene fornita dal ventilatore (FdO2) e quella realmente inspirata dal paziente (FiO2). Solo quando il sistema non presenta perdite ed il paziente non inspira aria ambientale, le due concentrazioni coincidono.
