Air-Pump-Assisted Pre-Descemet’s Endothelial Keratoplasty

Pre-Descemet’s endothelial keratoplasty (PDEK) was first described by Profs. Agarwal and Dua in 2014 [1–3]. This is a technique where in addition to the Descemet’s membrane and the endothelial cells, the Dua’s or the Pre-Descemet’s layer is transplanted onto a recipient cornea. The advantages that this technique offers over DMEK are the ability to use relatively younger grafts; the more robust nature of the graft which has greater resistance to tear as compared to DMEK as well as the relative ease of surgery thereby gained.
