Abstract
Embryology has a central place in the Siddha systems both in the practice with adults and with children. Care of the mother and the child begins at conception. There are several rites of passage during pregnancy to promote the health of the mother and infant yet to be born. The developmental phases of young children are termed paruvams. These are inextricably woven with disorders. The treatments unlike in adults consist of mostly herbal/animal products along with faith healing and magical practices. Warding off and pacification of evil spirits are important aspect of healing.
