Abstract

This chapter presents policy analysis for the implementation of non-motorized modes of transportation and the other clearer alternatives separately as the set of policies required for these two are distinctly different. It identifies a set of strategies that are required to overcome the barriers for the implementation of non-motorized modes of transport and assesses their socioeconomic and environmental benefits. It presents a methodology for the prioritization of such policies, and by means of a case study, it develops short- and long-term measures for the implementation of NMT. An indicative presentation of costs and benefits of such policies provides a glimpse of their implementation possibilities. In the similar lines it also identifies policy measures for the promotion of cleaner fuels and presents a methodology for their prioritization based on multi-criteria framework. The methodology developed is demonstrated by means of a case study.
