Abstract
For biological reclamation of any overburden (OB) material, its physical, chemical and biological properties must be known in advance. The purpose is to identify the plant growth-limiting factors. The OB dumps should be surveyed before and after biological reclamation. This will give information on the potential of OB material, its fertility, productivity and the level of amelioration and aftercare required.
