Abstract
Schistosomiasis is only next to malaria, among parasitic diseases, with regard to morbidity and mortality. In fact, it surpasses malaria as the former is a true zoonotic infection and also affects a large number of animal species, including domestic animals, while malaria is confined to primates only. Obviously, most of the studies have been done on schistosomiasis in man, while animals are considered only as disease transmitters.
