In this paper, we explain techniques for bronchoscopy, BAL, and endobronchial biopsy and briefly describe the characteristics of asthma and COPD. We then focus on bronchial asthma and explain the roles of various types of inflammatory cells in airway inflammation and finally summarize associated histologic changes.
