Abstract

The Doppler effect is a well-known phenomenon, an example of which is the siren from a moving vehicle is perceived as different tones when approaching and leaving the listener. The Doppler effect in the case of ultrasound was discovered in 1957 and has since been applied to the measurement of blood flow [1,2]. The combination of Doppler flowmeter with real time B-mode imaging has made it possible to measure blood flow in deep-seated blood vessels [3,4]. Circulation and hemodynamics of the liver and splanchnic organs have been investigated using the so-called Doppler ultrasound (Doppler duplex ultrasound system) [5–8].
