Abstract
A statistical study of Japanese cases of moyamoya disease was begun in 1974, when the Research Committee for Vascular Disorders of the Central Nervous System was first organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the Japanese government. Before the investigation by this committee, individual studies had been published with 96 cases in 1966 [8] and 1968 [9] by Nishimoto et al. 363 cases in 1971 [4] and 463 cases in 1984 [1] by Kudo, and with 518 cases in 1974 [7] and 1975 [6] by Nishimoto et al.
