Abstract
Japan, a nation completed surrounded by the sea, has been able to benefit in many ways from the ocean, including various aspects of material and cultural exchange as well as the exploitation of a variety of food for human consumption from vast ocean resources. Furthermore, the development of Japan’s culture has been significantly influenced by the sea. In these aspects, Japan’s far-ranging and deep relationship with the sea is intimate and inseparable.
