Electron Tunneling Into YBCO and Its Alloys

Abstract

We have performed tunneling measurements between a conventional superconductor (Pb) and the high Tc cuprate Y1−xPrxBa2Cu3O7−δ. Both quasiparticle tunneling and pair tunneling (Josephson effect) have been demonstrated and studied. With increasing concentration of Pr, the Tc decreases and the material becomes even more gapless. The Josephson coupling is reproducible, shows much of the conventional behavior. The a.c. Josephson effect is also observed.
