Abstract

An approach to the characterization of the high-Tc fine particles was presented using an electron spin resonance (ESR) method on powder mixtures of high-Tc cuprates and paramagnetic species.

R-Ba-Cu-O (R=Y,Eu,Gd) were synthesized by the sol-gel method and resistivity vs. temperature measurements were done by bulk oxides (Tc=91–93 K). ESR absorption was obtained with a powder mixture of a small amount of Cr3+ contained MgO and the ground high-Tc cuprates. Line broadening of Cr3+ has been observed at temperature lower than Tc of the bulk oxide. The results indicate that there was a pronounced decrease of Tc when the particle size was reduced.
