Abstract

The length of time required for an MRI examination is longer than that for CT. Since the procedure requires that the patient be absolutely still, considerable time may be required to calm him and get him to cooperate. Its use in acute conditions is thereby limited. The sensitivity of the MRI T2 weighted image is a recognized advantage in inflammatory changes. In the T1 weighted image, inflammatory changes are seen as areas of low to isointensity signal, but appear as high signal intensities on T2. Hemorrhagic changes can also be shown more clearly on MRI.
