Abstract
This paper describes the structural and physical properties of Y1-xCaxBa2Cu4 O8, (x=0. 0, 0. 02, 0.05, 0.1) examined by high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM), electrical resistivity under magnetic fields, magnetization and photoelectron spectroscopy measurements. The Tc of YBa2Cu4O8 is increased from 80 K to 90 K by Ca-subst itution for Y. The reason for the increase in Tc is discussed considering the hole concentration in this system. Various superconducting parameters such as upper and lower critical fields are also discussed. The existence of edge structure at Fermi energy is shown in the UPS spectra, which demonstrates no degradiation of the surface state on this compound in vacuum at room temperature.
