Abstract
Sheathed high Tc superconducting ceramic wire composites have been fabricated by wire drawing and by hydrostatic extrusion. A number of different superconducting ceramic compositions have been fabricated including YBa2Cu3O7 (“1–2–3”), and the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system. Under certain circumstances, a displacement reaction occurs at the interface between the ceramic superconductor and the containment tube; the nature of this reaction and its prevention are discussed.
