Management of Liver Metastases

Abstract

Liver metastasis indicates a poor prognosis in patients with advanced or recurrent gastric cancer. Therefore, treatment for a primary lesion of gastric cancer, including gastrectomy and lymphadenectomy, has sometimes not been undertaken because of the presence of liver metastases. New approaches to treat patients with liver metastases, such as hepatic resection, second-generation combination systemic chemotherapy, and hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy, have sometimes shown good control of liver metastases and have produced long survivals. These advances in the treatment of liver metastases have changed the therapeutic strategy for gastric cancer patients with liver metastases.
