Abstract
The growth of the Internet is placing severe demands on the existing telecommunications infrastructure. Especially, the growth of download accesses of movie-type contents has made Web traffic highly bursty, and this has become a significant problem for Internet users. In this paper, to solve the multimedia content download problem, we propose a new satellite digital broadcasting service system to provide global distribution of multimedia contents. New scheduling algorithms called Local Optimization (LO) and its varieties and new performance metrics called total sales amount and successful reception ratio are also proposed. Furthermore, we present a detailed performance evaluation of the proposed scheduling algorithm and of some typical existing scheduling algorithms with various traffic and access patterns using computer simulation.
