Abstract

The melting transition of the flux line lattice (FLL) has been investigated in a BSCCO crystal under small transport currents (≤ 10 A/cm2). It is found that while this small transport current does not significantly shift the position of the melting transition, it reduces irreversibility just below the transition. A change in the slope of the local induction is detected prior to the melting transition when the transport current is present. The results could indicate a transition from a ‘weak glass’ to a precursor phase before melting.
