Abstract
We have prepared epitaxial films of the rutheno-cuprate RuSr2GdCu2O8 (Ru-1212). Our films, though not phase-pure as yet, display ferromagnetic ordering and signs of the coexisting superconductivity that has drawn so much attention to the bulk material, where the two types of order (which are usually incompatible) uniformly coexist on a microscopic scale. In the absence of single crystals, study of polycrystalline films will help elucidate the electronic structure of Ru-1212, its anisotropy and the interplay between ferromagnetism and superconductivity.
