Abstract
The chemical sector consists of industries whose industrial technologies are similar to or exhibit the characteristics of chemical processing. As shown in Table 17.1-1, this criterion applies to an extremely broad range of industries. This analysis will be focused primarily on the material-type chemical industries or intermediate chemical products industries that have supplied the materials needed by Japan’s internationally competitive industries, especially automobile and electrical appliance manufacturing.
