Abstract

Immunotherapy has been, de facto, offering tremendous progress. Promising results in cancer treatment as well as in many other types of disease in both preclinical and clinical studies provide a new ray of hope to patients and their family members. However, “immunotherapy” is not a simple entity, but consists of different active or passive approaches, including cell-based therapy, antibody therapy, adoptive T-cell therapy, immune checkpoint blockade therapy, and vaccination (DNA, protein, and peptide). Although immunotherapy is established as one of the options in cancer treatment in addition to surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, the molecular mechanisms by which it works are not well clarified. In this chapter, we focus on a novel immunogenomics/immunopharmacogenomics approach to possibly provide useful information to select and monitor patients who receive cancer vaccine treatment.
