Abstract

In October 1982 I received an invitation from the British Embassy in Tokyo to visit universities and research institutions in the United Kingdom, with all travel expenses paid by the Embassy. I accepted the invitation, of course. We were to visit Oxford University, Cambridge University, Imperial Chemical Industries, Unilever PLC, and Rothamsted Experimental Station. While in Britain I encountered several scientists who were to have a great influence on my research.
