Abstract
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, there was much discussion on the problem of robust estimation and many papers were published. The author was also involved, wrote some papers and notes on the problem, and wrote reviews as some chapters of the book in Japanese. The purpose of this chapter is to give a comprehensive overview of the problem of robust estimation of a location parameter.
This chapter is the translation of the reorganized first chapters of Takeuchi (1973) Studies in Some Aspects of Theoretical Foundations of Statistical Data Analysis (Sūritōkeigaku no Hōhōteki Kiso).
