Abstract
In this chapter, we identify the error and disturbance in quantum measurement, and discuss how to quantify them. In contrast to classical systems, observables in quantum system have inherent fluctuations. It is necessary to distinguish the inherent fluctuations and the measurement error, both of which appear in the distribution of measurement outcomes. Also, we need to distinguish the fluctuation of an observable in the original quantum state and the disturbance caused by the measurement process, both of which influence the post-measurement state.
