In diesem Kapitel werden grundlegende methodische Aspekte einer empirischen Untersuchung dargestellt. Hinsichtlich des grundlegenden Charakters einer empirischen Untersuchung werden häufig zwei Formen unterschieden: qualitative und quantitative Untersuchungen. Qualitative Untersuchungen werden durchgeführt, wenn ein wesentliches Verständnis für eine bestimmte Forschungsfrage erlangt werden soll.488 Quantitative Untersuchungen haben die Messung bestimmter Sachverhalte bzw. die Entdeckung von Gesetzmäßigkeiten zum Gegenstand. Sie beruhen in der Regel auf der Erhebung einer größeren Fallzahl, die Rückschlüsse auf die tatsächlichen Verhältnisse in der Grundgesamtheit ermöglicht.489 In der vorliegenden Arbeit sollen Gesetzmäßigkeiten über die Beziehungen zwischen Internem Marketing, marktorientierter Unternehmenskultur sowie künden- und wettbewerberorientierten Verhaltensweisen geprüft werden. In diesem Kapitel werden deshalb die Methoden und Vorgehensweisen einer quantitativen Untersuchung dargestellt.490
